Credit card management is not as difficult as it looks.  All you need is a healthy dose of self-motivation, dedication and perseverance and you’re well on your way to a debt free life.  Many people find themselves with mounting debt just because they ignore the problem.  They think that it will get better or it will go away on its own.

Here’s a fact to remember when dealing with debts.  If more than 20 percent of your monthly income goes to paying credit card debts alone, then you’re one of those individuals who are in the danger zone of debt problems.  As early as now, you have to take actions to be efficient in credit card management.  If you do not do anything, that 20% will balloon quickly.

Firs and foremost, do not get tempted with brand new offers from credit card companies.  Currently, eighty percent of Americans receive weekly credit card offers in the mail.  Throw them out while you can. However, remember to dispose of them properly. Shred it or cut it up.  Other people can use this information in a fraudulent manner.

The next step in efficient credit card management is to know your monthly expenses.  Sort your expenses into necessities and luxuries.  Once you have determined which expenses are unnecessary, make a mental note and remember to never use your credit cards on these items.  Only use your credit card when absolutely necessary.

Another important step to take in credit card management is to commit yourself in paying your bills in full each month.  Doing so will enable you to eliminate spending for excessive interest rates.  Interest payment is a very large amount once you try to compute and accumulate what you’ve spent in a year. Try doing the math on this.  Get all your credit statements for the past year and add up all the interests you have paid. See how much it amounts to.  It may surprise you to know how much of an effect interest rates can have on your finances.  In fact, unknown to many, the amount you pay in interest rates is more oftentimes than not larger even than the amount of your principal balance.

Another effective way of credit card management is to cut down on the number of credit cards you have.  If you find it difficult to do this all at once, then try throwing out one credit a month until you find yourself with one or two cards that are manageable.  Take note that even if you have thrown out your credit card or stopped using it, your account is still active. It will only be canceled after you have called the company and requested for a cancellation.

Credit card management is not as difficult as many people think.  Practice the suggestions as listed above and you will find yourself financially fit sooner than you think.
