Credit Repair May Be Necessary

Have you had credit issues in the past? It is quite likely that your credit issues have been made worse by errors generated by systemic flaws in the reporting system. More than three-quarters of all credit reports include errors which require intercession to remedy.  Credit repair can produce dramatic results if it is approached properly.

If you take the following steps and you will see dramatic results in your credit score. It’s easy. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Proofread Your Credit Reports

Start your credit repair effort by getting copies of all three credit bureau reports or a tri-merged report including all three bureaus.

You must examine every line for errors. Take nothing for granted. You are not looking only for obvious derogatory items.

For optimal credit repair results you should look for under-reported credit card limits, duplicate items which can overstate your debt, accounts reporting as open with a balance that are actually closed and paid, collections that may have been sold to another collector, and anything that looks at all questionable.

The removal of these errors can make a significant difference in your scores. If you find errors you should dispute them.

Step 2: Dispute Your Credit Errors

Sending credit repair dispute letters to the credit bureaus is easy. The secret is to keep it simple.

The credit bureaus don’t want to hear your life story. Be very clear; list the account name, account number, and your concern.

Be as succinct as possible. If the account is not yours, just say so and nothing more. You also need to include two pieces of identification, preferably your driver’s license, and a copy of your Social Security card.

Make copies of the letters and send them off to the bureaus. Your credit repair effort is underway. But it’s not over yet.

Step 3: Do Not Give Up

The credit bureaus have thirty days to process your dispute, and another five days to get their response out the door. So mark your calendar and keep your eye on the mailbox.

The credit bureaus will not always correct errors on the first request. Credit repair requires perseverance.

If the mail arrives and you did not get the answer you wanted, just do it again. But this time send a formal request that they have the creditor research the account in question.

Occasionally the bureaus will send you a quick response denying your request to research the issue. Be patient, write to them again, and stand your ground.
